2019 - 2020 Season:
2020: Welcome to Uncertainty - A Short Playwriting Contest
Pandemics, economic upheavals, social awakenings, cancelled graduations, murder hornets... 2020 is a year of change that has touched all our lives, how has it affected yours? The Sandy Spring Theatre Group is seeking original short scripts, five to ten minutes in length, depicting how 2020 is affecting your life or how you see it changing the world. The stories can be funny or serious; they can be monologues, dialogues, or multi-person; you could even make it a musical!
If selected, you will be invited to direct a Zoom performance of your work. You may cast and direct it yourself, or request that Sandy Spring Theatre Group do so. If you choose to do it, a representative of the Sandy Spring Theatre Group will work with you on technical and logistical issues.
We hope to select 5-7 scripts for production. Authors, you will be notified, by July 10, 2020, whether or not your script was selected.
The submission deadline is Friday, July 3, 2020. Please email your script to [email protected].
Authors of selected scripts will receive a $25 prize.
All authors retain rights to their work. However, the authors of the selected scripts grant Sandy Spring Theatre Group the rights to perform and broadcast royalty free.
Technical rehearsal for all plays will be on Friday, August 7, 2020 at 7:00 PM.
Dress rehearsal for all plays will take place on Saturday, August 8, 2020, at 2:00 PM.
Performances for all plays will take place on Saturday, August 8, 2020, at 8 p.m.
